Best Podcast Available: ESPN's Turron Davenport Talks Cam Ward, Titans and More

The Tennessee Titans obviously hold the keys to the 2025 NFL Draft by owning the No. 1 overall selection, but is their decision simply a formality at this point?

In the weeks since this year's NFL Scouting Combine, buzz has continued to grow that the Titans and Miami quarterback Cam Ward are destined to team up at that top overall spot. That trend only intensified after Ward's impressive pro day workout alongside some of his Hurricanes teammates.

On the latest episode of "Best Podcast Available," Athlon Sports draft expert Luke Easterling was joined by ESPN Titans reporter Turron Davenport to break down what feels increasingly like a foregone conclusion for both Ward and the Titans.

"That's more or less the way it's setting up," Davenport said. "If you look at the way they've loaded up the offensive line, bringing Brandon Allen in as the backup quarterback, it's all pointing toward Cam Ward being the pick."

Throughout this year's draft process, Ward has continued to slowly separate from the rest of this year's quarterback class, putting distance between himself and the likes of Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, Alabama's Jalen Milroe, and Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss.

So, what makes Ward worthy of the No. 1 overall pick when so many thought this was a down year for quarterbacks in the draft?

"My question is, what makes him not?" Davenport said. "He can make all of the throws. he's someone who, when stuff is in trouble . . . you look at the Cal game, the Virginia Tech game . . . this is a guy who, when it was time to make things happen, he made it happen. He led them on comebacks. You look at the ability to just get everyone involved. You listen to what his guys say about him. You listen to (wide receiver Xavier) Restrepo, you talk to (tight end Elijah) Arroyo, (wide receiver) Sam Brown . . . they rave about his leadership. He's a guy who's gotten out of the mud. Hard work is not foreign to him. He had to work his way up from a zero-star recruit to a Heisman candidate."

Throughout the rest of the episode, Easterling and Davenport broke down the Titans' other options, such as trading down or targeting an elite prospect at another position such as Colorado wide receiver/cornerback and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, or Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter, as well as how the strengths of the draft class could match up with Tennessee's remaining needs at the top of the second round.
