Bears trade back, land stud defender in 2025 NFL mock draft

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the 2025 NFL Draft, where they're in a great position to add an impact player with their 10th overall pick.

There's been plenty of discussion about which direction Chicago could go. After shoring up needs in the offensive and defensive trenches, the Bears have flexibility with the No. 10 pick. But what happens if their top guys -- presumably Mason Graham, Will Campbell, Ashton Jeanty, Tyler Warren and Armand Membou -- are already off the board?

In a new mock draft from Athlon Sports' Luke Easterling, the Bears lose out on running back Ashton Jeanty and wind up trading back 11 spots with the Pittsburgh Steelers (who select quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 10). Chicago lands two extra draft picks and a stud edge rusher in Georgia's Mykel Williams at No. 21.

After losing out on Jeanty in the top 10, the Bears drop back 11 spots, adding two extra picks and getting better value as they address one of their biggest remaining needs. Williams was slowed by injury last season, but at full strength, he's exactly the kind of well-rounded edge defender Chicago needs across from Montez Sweat.

With the top prospects off the board, this is a great move by the Bears to move back, add a couple more selections and still add a playmaker like Williams in the first round. Last season, Williams totaled 21 tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles, but he also revealed at the NFL Scouting Combine that he wasn't at full health.

While Chicago addressed their pass rush with the additions of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, you can't have too many pass rushers on the roster as defensive coordinator Dennis Allen made it clear that the goal is to get after the quarterback.
