Twenty-two Mid-Hudson track and field athletes advance to 2025 NCAA regional meets

The Mid-Hudson will be well-represented at next week's NCAA Division I track and field regional meets, qualifiers for the national championships.

Eight graduates from Section 9 schools and 14 Army athletes have qualified for the East and West regional meets, in Jacksonville, Fla., and College Station, Texas, respectively. Regional competition takes place from May 28-31.

The lone entry at the West meet - and perhaps best opportunity for a local competitor to advance - is Cornwall graduate Karrie Baloga. The sophomore is seeded third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

At the East meet, keep an eye on Warwick graduate Lily Beattie and Roosevelt grad Sarah Trainor. Beattie, a freshman at Mississippi, is seeded tenth in the pole vault (she is ranked No. 4 among all national freshmen). Trainor, a junior at Connecticut, is seeded No. 13 in the 3,000 steeplechase.

Additional Section 9 graduates slated to compete are Amelia Benjamin of Ellenville (high jump); Valley Central grad Bianca Staples (triple jump); Goshen grad Emma Wapshare (javelin); Our Lady of Lourdes grad Jaheim Jones (100- and 200-meter dash); Monroe-Woodbury grad Collin Gilstrap (1,500 meters); New Paltz grad Aidan Ifkovits (hammer); and, Newburgh grad James Onwuka (relays).

Among the Army entries, senior Emily Fink is the top seed in the hammer throw and No. 14 in the shot put.
